INDIGENOUS CASTING CALL
SEEKING INDIGENOUS ARTISTS FOR WESTERN CANADA TOUR OF #CHURCHTOO
Theatre of the Beat is looking two cast two Indigenous artists for an upcoming tour of #ChurchToo, directed by Matt White.
We are seeking one female Indigenous artist and one male Indigenous artist, both between the ages of 20 and 35. Along with a variety of other scenes, the artists will be performing a scene written by Diné singer, writer, and activist, Lyla June. The piece focuses on members of Indigenous Turtle-Islanders. Performers should be comfortable speaking traditional Diné language along with playing a range of other characters. Artists who are comfortable tackling challenging material in a positive, sensitive, and collaborative manner are especially encouraged to apply.
#ChurchToo is uniquely designed to cater specifically to the questions and concerns of each community that hosts it. Nine playwrights from across North America have each written a scene to explore the realities of sexual misconduct, power, and abuse within church communities. At each performance, the audience will vote to choose four of these scenes to be performed in their church.
