Got Your Back: Mental Health Peer Support

Theatre of the Beat believes that, in order to make an impact, conversations about mental health require authenticity. This is what makes theatre such a powerful learning tool when navigating these conversations.

This workshop provides an engaging and genuine approach to teaching participants practical ways to support each other’s mental health.

This unique, experiential approach to practicing scenarios provides hands-on, and interactive drama activities that prompt honest discussion and helps participants feel more confident checking in with each other and offering support.

 

Workshop Goals

In Got Your Back: Mental Health Peer Support you'll learn:

  • To recognize signs of trauma & mental health concerns in yourself, friends, and peers 

  • Interactive grounding and self-regulation techniques you can use and teach to others

  • Boundary-setting exercises and communication practice

  • To understand emotional regulation through Window of Tolerance exploration

  • Forum Theatre role-playing of realistic scenarios to practice supporting peers experiencing:

    • Anxiety and panic attacks

    • Depression

    • Interpersonal conflict

    • Setting boundaries in relationships
