Sara
Jarvie-Clark

Cast

Sara Jarvie-Clark is a multidisciplinary artist working in music and theatre. She is interested in the intersection between live art, politics, ritual and community. Recent theatre projects include working at The Stratford Festival where she participated in The Micheal Langham Directors’ Workshop, assistant directing for Jessica Carmichael on her production of The Rez Sisters. In the land of music she just released her debut album Analogues Of May with Wolfe Island Records. She is currently incubating a project with Badfox Performance Collective at Tarragon Theatre’s Greenhouse program called Mass Exodus. She graduated from Concordia University’s Theatre and Development program in 2019. She is thrilled to be working with TOTB on this long overdue production of Selah’s Song!

Christina
Leonard

Cast

Christina Leonard is thrilled to be back with Theatre of the Beat and working with such a great team. She is an actor/creator, born and raised in Toronto. Most recently Christina performed as Robyn in the audio-drama version of Forgiven/Forgotten with Theatre of the Beat. She is also a budding voice-over actor, currently playing Storm in the pre-school animated show Super Wings. She has previously toured across Canada with shows for young audiences: a musical adaptation of Jillian Jiggs, an environmental play called Tree Boy, and Geronimo Stilton: Mouse in Space!. Christina would like to thank her family for their love and support.

Zach
Parsons

Cast

Zach Parsons is an actor/musician based in Toronto, and is excited to be back working with Theatre of the Beat, having worked on This Will Lead to Dancing (2018) and #ChurchToo (2019). Elsewhere, recent credits include: Journey to the East and The Second Life (Tottering Biped Theatre), Hamburger (Informal Upright - 2018 Toronto Fringe), and four prior seasons of Shakespeare at the Rock at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, ON. As well as various roles in TV and film, he also makes sketch comedy videos with his sketch group Big Cake Comedy. Music-wise, he has done sound design and composed full scores for plays, short films, TV commercials, and continues to experiment with more!

Malia
Rogers

Cast

Malia Rogers is a Nova Scotian singer-songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, actor and arts administrator who now makes her home in Ottawa, Ontario. Malia holds degrees in theatre from Acadia University and York University, and is deeply passionate about theatre that engages communities, sparks important conversations about social change, and fosters new connections across difference. After a lengthy pandemic hiatus, Malia is overjoyed to finally be debuting on Theatre of the Beat’s stages. Malia’s solo musical projects can be found on all online platforms and she is always on the lookout for new artistic collaborators.

 

Erin
Brandenburg

Director

Erin Brandenburg is a theatre director and writer originally from Essex County, Ontario. Based in Toronto, she works with the multidisciplinary collective Kitchenband. Erin is a graduate of the directing program at the Soulpepper Academy, winner of the Enbridge Emerging Playwright’s Award, a finalist for the Gina Wilkinson prize, participant of the Stratford Playwright’s Retreat, The Banff Playwright’s Lab and the Longbourough Lake Writer's Retreat (Crow's Theatre/Mongrel Media). She was an artist in residence at the Toronto Public Library through Artists in the Library, where she created the Albion VR Project in collaboration with Toasterlab. Selected directing credits include the upcoming musical The Flin Flon Cowboy (The Flin Flon Collective/Rendezvous With Madness Festival-Workman Arts), Knives in Hens (TMU), Forgiven/Forgotten (Audio Drama - TOTB), HOME DAY (Necessary Angel/Resilience Project), UnMute (Zoom Play/Podcast - TOTB), Remembering the Winnipeg General (Zeitpunktheatre), Everything I Couldn’t Tell You (Riser/Spiderbones), Blood Wedding (Soulpepper), This Will Lead to Dancing (TOTB), Petrichor (Summerworks),

Her plays include BOBLO (Theatre Centre/Kitchenband), The Great Lakes Project (Kitchenband), Petrichor (Summerworks), Drive (Kitchenband/Edge of the Woods Theatre), Detroit Time Machine (Rhubarb), Pelee (SummerWorks) and Reesor - co-written with Lauren Taylor.

Johnny
Wideman

Playwright

Johnny Wideman is a playwright, short storyist, dramaturg, actor, facilitator, and founder of Full Bodied Short Stories. As a playwright, his work has been published by Theatre of the Beat, and performed over 260 times throughout the U.S. and across Canada. As an author he has been published in Geez Magazine, and the Utne Quarterly, and released his first collection of poems and short stories To Aid Digestion in 2017. Johnny lives in Stouffville, ON in the Das Farm Haus Community with his partner Leah and their friends.

Cedric
Martin

Cast & Producer

Cedric Martin is the Artistic Director of Theatre of the Beat and the Guard, Set Builder and Producer for Selah's Song. Cedric is very excited to be working on this production. Cedric is also one of the Artistic Directors of Don’t Look Down Theatre Company. For Theatre of the Beat Cedric has worked on Unmute (2020-2022), Forgiven/Forgotten (2021), Yellow Bellies (2019-2020) and I Love You and it Hurts (upcoming). When Cedric is not working on theatre he can be found spending time with his wife, Alyse and daughter Calia.

 

Camila
Farah

Seamstress & Costume Designer

Camila Farah is so excited to be joining Theatre of the Beat as a seamstress and designer! Camila is a graduate of Randolph College for the Performing Arts and her credits include SAMCA (Spindle Collective), Rapunzel (TYT) and Sunshine Boy (Randolph). Ian
Garrett

Set + Lighting Designer

Ian Garrett is a designer, producer, educator, and researcher in the field of sustainability in arts and culture. He is the director of the Centre for Sustainable Practice in the Arts and Associate Professor of Ecological Design for Performance at York University, where he is Graduate Program Director for Theatre and Performance Studies. He is also producer for Toasterlab, a mixed reality performance collective. He maintains a design practice focused on ecology, accessible technologies and scenography. Notable projects related to EcoScenography include the set and energy systems for Zata Omm's Vox:Lumen at the Harbourfront Centre and Crimson Collective’s Ascension, a solar 150’ wide crane at Coachella. With Chantal Bilodeau, he co-directs the Climate Change Theatre Action. His writing includes Arts, the Environment, and Sustainability for Americans for the Arts; The Carbon Footprint of Theatrical Production in Readings in Performance and Ecology, and Theatre is No Place for a Plant in Landing Stages from the Ashden Directory. He serves on the Board of Directors for Associated Designers of Canada, was the Curator for the US for the 2019 Prague Quadrennial and co-chair for World Stage Design 2022 in Calgary.

Kristine
White

Puppet Consultant

Kristine has been working as a puppeteer and visual artist since 2011, with a focus on work that is created for site-specific, public spaces. She has worked with Shadowland Theatre, Clay and Paper Theatre, Jumblies Theatre and Birdbone Theatre as a designer, writer, performer, and builder. She has apprenticed under and learned from marionette master Mirek Trejtnar in Prague, traditional shadow puppeteer Rakmachandran Tholpawkuthu in India, Puppetmongers Theatre in Toronto, and Peter Schumann of Bread and Puppet Theatre in Vermont. Kristine has developed a specialty in designing and building large-scale puppets for parades and pageants, having been a designer and builder for Clay and Paper Theatre since 2014. In 2016 she shifted to focus her work on shadow puppetry, and hasn’t looked back. She has toured shows in Ontario, Quebec, and Colorado, as well as in Greece, Cyprus, and India.

 

Ali
Carroll

Ali Carroll is a queer artist, writer, and musician living and working in Toronto, Ontario. From illustration to graphic design, animation, and more, she's worked on a milieu of artistic projects; including posters and logos for various local theatre companies. Having previously worked with Theatre of the Beat on their production of Unmute, she is eager and excited to be a part of their latest venture, and can't wait for you to see what they have in store. Brendan
Kinnon

Associate producer

Brendan is a Toronto based actor, director, and producer who is passionate about contemporary theatre and producing new Canadian plays. He is currently working as the House Technician for the Red Sandcastle Theatre and the Head of Props for Hart House Theatre’s production of Three Sisters. Brendan is the founder of Riot King: Art Market - an artist hub producing experimental theatre and arts-community events. Brendan has worked internationally and across the country, but has focused much of his work on building the arts community in southern Ontario. When not on stage or sending emails you can find Brendan working away in his garden or strolling around the many wonderful parks of Toronto!
