UNMUTE WORKSHOP
hOW TO BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER IN SITUATIONS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Theatre of the Beat seeks to leverage the power of applied theatre to improve outcomes for individuals who are at risk of experiencing gender-based violence. Since the highest rates of domestic violence occur between the ages of 18-15, this workshop is targeted specifically at youth and young adults.
Following the success of our 2020/2021 tour of the play “Unmute: The Impact of a Pandemic on Gender-Based Violence,” this workshop promises to spark dialogue and equip audiences with the skills needed to safely and effectively intervene, empowering them with confidence to become active bystanders. Our goal is to find everyday ways to interrupt the patterns of isolation that allow gender-based violence to happen.
Your group will:
Understand the warning signs and risk factors present in abusive relationships
Gain confidence in responding as a bystander to potential situations of abuse
Increase knowledge of available resources in their community
