Eric Trudell is a playwright, director, and theatre producer based in Toronto. As a creator, his work focuses on themes of labour, masculinity, violence, media, and environmentalism. Through his writing, he explores the mundane lives of working-class people across backdrops of unassuming Ontario towns to capture a mosaic of dying Canadiana. Eric has trained and developed his writing with theatres across Ontario, including the Grand Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, Hart House Theatre, Expect Theatre, CBC PlayME, Sunbeam Theatre, and PeachFuzz Theatre. His play Bloodhound was a finalist for the Wildfire Playwriting Competition and his play All the Good Dogs placed second in the Hamilton Fringe New Play Contest. His newest play Knife was independently produced at the Theatre Centre in April, 2026. Eric is the founder of Stagepunk Theatre, an indie performance collective born out of DIY punk and hardcore music scenes. As Artistic Director of Stagepunk, he focuses on the development of new plays and musicals that are bold, scrappy, and innovative. Eric holds a BFA in theatre from York University, where he was a recipient of the President's Award for Outstanding Stage Play.
