15 Years of Making A Scene

15 YEARS AGO:

Making a Scene meant making DIY sets out of milk crates, driving through the night in a borrowed vehicle, sleeping on church floors, subsisting on PB&Js, and handing out fliers on street corners - hoping someone would see our show.

TODAY:

The world has changed enormously since our first tour, but our commitment to starting conversations has not. Making a scene now means teaching theatre inside a Federal Prison, running our own theatre festival, mentoring emerging theatre-makers, delivering workshops for shelters, public libraries, and not-for-profits. We still call Danforth Mennonite Church our home, still stay with billets, still drive mini-vans across the country, and - of course - we’re still making community-centered social justice theatre designed to get people talking.

the next 15 years?

Fifteen years in, there’s still plenty of work to do. Right now, every dollar you give is matched, up to $10,000.

Where your gift goes
Your support pays artists, reaches new communities, and opens conversations that might otherwise never happen. Coming up:

  • Invisible Threads, our play about human trafficking and forced labour, returns to Toronto audiences after a successful national tour.

  • Interactive programs expand with seniors, newcomers, and incarcerated folks at Grand Valley Institute for Women.

  • The Emerging Producers Fellowship/MADGEN Festival enters its fourth year, supporting emerging artists in developing socially engaged theatre.

    Join the scene
The world has changed enormously since our first tour. Our commitment to brave conversations hasn’t. Help us make the next 15 years as impactful as the first.
