LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Although our staff call many places home, Theatre of the Beat is based in Tkaronto on Treaty 13 - land promised to ‎the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Wendat, and Neutral peoples.

As a touring organization, and as people living and performing in many communities, we are grateful for the opportunity to gather, work, and create across Turtle Island. Since theatre is a form of oral story-telling, which has been practiced by First Nations since time immemorial, we hope that our work honours this longstanding tradition.

We also recognize that this land was promised to others, and that the access and privilege granted to us as Settlers is largely due to the displacement and genocide enacted against Indigenous Peoples under colonialization. Wherever we perform, we try to honour the original caretakers and the ongoing stewards of this land, while also wrestling with the ongoing implications of colonialization.

The Intersex-Inclusive Pride flag was created by activist Valentino Vecchietti (she/they) in 2021
